Fishermen and women come from around the country to test their angling skills on the lakes and rivers in the area. Try your hand at fly fishing on the Platte, Manistee, and Betise Rivers. Betsie Bay in Frankfort is the home for many "big lake" charter boats. Traveling north from the resort you enter Leelenau County and the Village of Glen Arbor and the Big and Little Glen Lakes. One of the most notable galleries in the area is that of Gwen Frostic, located on River Road between Benzonia and Frankfort. More "big city" shopping can be found in Traverse City (15 minutes east) and Manistee (45 minutes south) of the resort.
West of Sunny Woods is Crystal Lake, Lake Michigan, and the Big and Little Platte Lakes. Public bathing beaches for the sun-bather, public boat ramps, kids play areas and plenty of sand-castle material can be found at each of these locations.
More gaming and recreation can be found at the casinos in the area. Within 45 minutes of the resort are several offering Vegas-style gaming, dining & live entertainment.
