During your stay at Sunny Woods Resort you'll find a multitude of things to do around
the area every season of the year.
In the Spring, when the forests burst into bloom you'll find plenty of trails to hike around the area.
This is also mushroom season, when the Morel Mushroom and Trilliums blanket the forest floor.
Visit nearby Mesick, Michigan during their annual Mushroom Festival.
March
through May is when the Stealhead and Trout begin their run on the Platte, Betsie
and Manistee Rivers. If you are a fisherman there are a number of fishing
guides in the area who you can take on either of these three rivers.
With
the warm weather you will also find area golf courses opening
for the season. Many offer special pre-season rates from their
opening through the end of June.
From
June through September there are plenty of local events, festivals, weekly
concerts, arts and crafts shows and of course the Fourth of July fireworks which take place in Beulah on
Crystal Lake and Frankfort on the Lake Michigan beach. The week-long Cherry
Festival in Traverse City begins after Independence Day.
In
the early fall, the lakes are still warm enough for one last swim. Take a canoe trip down the upper
or lower Platte River to to mouth of the Platte on Lake
Michigan and watch the salmon migrate upstream. October
offers the return of cool crisp colorful days. Northern Michigan
is famous for it's seasonal color change which attracts visitors
from around the mid-west.
While
you are meandering the country roads, absorbing the peace and
colors of the season you may find your Halloween pumpkin at quaint roadside stand
along the way. As the leaves fall to the forest floor, hunting
season begins in mid-November and the first dusting of snow.
Northern Michigan winters are great for outdoor sports. These include snowmobiling,
ice fishing, downhill or cross-country skiing, sledding,
tobogganing and much more.
Several
ski areas are close-by including Crystal Mountain with it's
acres of downhill slopes and miles of cross-county trails.
For
the sportsman ice fishing has also become a popular sport in the area, and within minutes you can be on the
Big or Little Platte Lake
and Crystal Lake.
